BookFest 2009 Goodies

I’m really utterly frustrated today. It’s a small matter but i’m in a bad mood ever since this morning. I thought when i left that bank i’ll be rid of all the bad feng shui but it still haunts me apparently. I wonder if the same situation arised with another financial company i’ll be as short tempered as i am now. I think not.

I’ve dealt with enough problems that this bank had gave me and if it’s not because of my installment warrant a local card i would definitely had terminated all facilities with this company. Argh… as i said it’s a small matter, all i wanted was an explanation on why i’m charged an annual fees when my card is a free for life card with no terms and conditions whatsoever and also to reactivate my online account. So hard meh?! Yeah i know your system always down because i used to work there and i know you won’t get back to me until weeks later when it’s already useless or i’ve already forgotten. Really. Humpf!

This year’s BookFest was better than the last years’ because they have more English books and it’s much more organized. However, Mr. Bf begs to differ because he couldn’t find any Chinese books worth reading. Too bad for him haha.

Nonetheless, he was grinning from ear to ear after purchasing a RM160 China story book cum stamp book. Geek!

There’s a section of the hall selling China stamps mainly and he found this particular one that’s supposed to be a limited collection.

It’s a book with the chinese history of Water Margin and stamps to commemorate this event.

This particular stamp (below) was published on 1987. It’s supposed to be worth RM80 itself.

I’m really not bothered about China stamps really. I don’t know how to appreciate all those stuff haha.

Jazz Night Out

Last Sunday we were at KLCC for dinner at Nippon Tei before rushing to Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) hall for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at 8.30pm.

I wore my little black dress… the only little black dress i have which weren’t too short at the hemline for the occasion after all. Mr. Bf had to wear a shirt which he detest because he hate wearing shirts. I once asked him if he were to find a job that requires him to wear formal working attire, what would he do. He thank god profusely that his current job doesn’t requires that. That answered my question. LOL.

Anyhow, it is Mr. Bf’s first time at MPO and attending such ‘concert’ and my second time there so i was pretty excited. My first was during college for a classical play. I just love MPO. The hall is really fantastic and the sound is superb. Just being in the magnificent hall makes me feel a little classier than usual.

The hall were fully packed mostly with audiences of all ages and a lot of expats anticipating a great performance. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band who came all the way from New Orleans did not failed us and was fantastic as expected. I fell in love with jazz music all over again.

The band did their charm, they were entertaining and funny and full of character, experts with their instruments, cajoling the crowd with their funny antiques and hilarious lyrics. It was really awesome to see that more than a handful of the audience unembarrassed to thump their feet on the carpeted floor or gently sway (in their seats of course) to the beat of the music. I myself couldn’t help nodding and swaying my shoulders left and right throughout the performance.

The show lasted for 1 and a half hour which i regret was kind of short. Before the show ended the audiences were asked to stand up while the band played the very well known “When the Saints Go Marching In” made famous my Louis Armstrong.

Did you know that the song is traditionally used as a funeral march or also known as the jazz funeral in New Orleans? Not very appropriate but it got everyone warmed up since most of us knows the lyrics so everyone was clapping and singing too.

The band then started to parade down the aisle down to the audience and then around the whole hall while inviting us to join in the parade! It was really fun since the audience were to follow them up the stage and dance to that number. I wish i had gone up too but i was sitting in the far inside so i was contented to watch in envy the group of people enjoying themselves, let their hair down for once on stage.

To my surprise, the band then started to head towards the door and outside of the hall with streams of audiences on their trail dancing and laughing. That marked the end of the concert but not the end of the show. What a sight it was when the band paraded down to the lobby still playing their instruments, attracting more and more crowd on their way down. It was awesome!

Then there was an autographs session for their new Volume I album. Smart way to promote their album huh? LOL.

Too bad i didn’t get their signature because there were too many people but it was a really great night.

Dao Mei

As expected, our Valentine’s Day turned out to be another disaster. But it’s ok coz we were sooooo unlucky that day, it was funny.

You know, Valentine’s Day is really like a Black Friday for us. Everything that we planned to do will be a flop… without fail each year. The last 2 Valentines, we ended up with a huge argument and we had to postponed the celebration coz i was not done sulking >_<. So, we kind of agreed and made a pack not to buy gifts or celebrate Valentine’s Day this year or maybe the years after. It’s not like i’m a grinch or don’t like to be lovey dovey for a day but i think our birth dates clashes with Valentine’s Day or something, bad things just happends to us on Vday and Mr. Bf isn’t really the romantic type ler hey, i’m running out of idea on gifts too ok. Who isn’t right? Haha. Right.

Even so, that didn’t stopped us from having a rotten day on V-day. First we were stuck in the traffic for like forever. It was early afternoon but already the roads are packed with vehicles. We were there looking for a certain backpack for trekking use just because his friend, Kelvin told us that the shop at KLCC have that particular one that we were looking for. It took us double the time to get to KLCC and we were cranky and nearly screamed at each other in the car. Then we found out the shop doesn’t even carry that brand of backpack! Wtf! We’re so going to kill him!

Since we were at KLCC we went to CIMB to open a joint account. We waited almost an hour in the queue and when it was our turn the stupid Malay woman eyed suspiciously me up and down and started interogating us. I mean it’s just a joint account wat? It’s not like we’re smuggling fake money or wat! Somemore when i asked her about foreign cheques she launched into a long speech on how the bank is going to charge high fees to clear it then how it’s not worth cashing out the cheque. Wtf. When i asked her about the fees she just shrugged and say she don’t know. In the end we were so frustrated we didn’t open the account.

When it rains it pours. We thought having a hot meal would make us forget the bad day, and we had the worst lunch i ever had. The food sucks big time! We spend the rest of the day caught in traffic driving to the Curve and 1U. I couldn’t even find the handbag that i wanted. Then on the way back home there was another round of traffic. Grrrr!

Now i really believe Valentine’s are not in our feng shui book.
