Merry Christmas and a Ho Ho Ho!

Hectic end of the year.
Sister’s Indian style wedding at Sungai Petani which was super awesome.
Playing Shanghai Mahjong non-stop till the wee hours.
Exercising consistently.
Shopping spree like crazy and spending money like liquid.
Getting ready for sister’s KL reception on the New Year – 1 more week to go.

And now it’s Christmas!

Exhausted.

So, today it’s just me wishing everyone a Merry, merry Christmas with your family and loved ones!

I hope you have been good because Santa always knows. I know the bf had been really hard working this year so is rewarding himself a very well deserved spanking new Nexus phone. As for me? I don’t know… i think i’ve been good… almost LOL.

Gifts with Meaning

Gifts with Meaning

The general perception of bears is they are cute and cuddly. Yes, they could be dangerous and could possibly kill you in a brutal attack but we still think they are warm and adorable creatures which they really are if we are not so stupid to provoke them.

But of course we know that and the general perception that the bears are big snuggly animals that’s nice to hug is still intact. This goes to explain the dozens of teddy bear soft toys in our bedroom. We love teddy bears. We can’t resist them. We buy teddy merchandises. We longed for the big huge life size teddy by the shop window of Memory Lane.

You know, i’m extremely tired and barely able to get up today. The boyfriend and i spent the night going through animalasia.org looking at photos after photos of the poor adorable moon bears.

Have you heard of the Moon Bears plight? It’s been going on since 1995 and i am surprise at myself for not being aware of it (being the self professed animal lover and all). I actually came across the founder’s blog long before when i was reading about the culling of dogs in China but didn’t have the guts to go though the posts afraid i might bawl like a baby (because i’m a champion cry baby). I really did not need another sad story in my conciseness that day.

However, last night the boyfriend was telling me the horrible stories of how moon bears’ bile are being harvest for the use of traditional Chinese medicine. I’ve got to read it and see the photos for myself and when i did i couldn’t begin to tell you how it affected me.

I read of  how cruel the bears are treated – being incarcerated (some since baby) in cages too small that they could not move for years and years, how the confinement caused stunted growth in some cases, how the dirty catheters inserted to extract bile in their abdomen gets infected and causes multiple organ failures which the bear have to endure for years till they die, how their paws are chopped off to prevent them from scratching out the catheters, how diseased the bears have become which made them blind, brain damaged, violent even. Bears in painful custom metal jackets designed to protect the dirty latex contraption for extraction of bile.

How could someone be so cruel?  Do they not have a conscious?

Come on, look at them!

The boyfriend and i gave a small donation for the cause last night and i felt better that we did something. We decided to sponsor a bear next year after the pay raise. It’ll be about USD45 (approx. RM154) per month which is a bit costly but we are thinking about it or at least we’ll befriend a bear for a mere USD80 (approx. RM274) per year. It’s really cool because you get annual photos and updates on your bear. It’s like owning one.

Going through the website again today i found a page at the Gift Shop where you can choose specific gifts for the bears such as food (pots of honey, tub of raisins, fruit baskets), toys (hammock, swings, etc)  and medical services (vet care, health check, etc).

It’s really sweet actually and i think i’ll buy a pot of honey for a special bear this Christmas. It just cost USD8.00 per pot to make a bear happy for the festive season. Plus they’ll send you a nice card. It’ll do as a nice and thoughtful gift to someone to be donated on behalf on and it’ll be a great way to educate the kids.

By the way, if you’re wondering, this is not a paid post or anything. I’m just really passionate about animals. Although not passionate enough to be an activist but i like to do my part. I believe that if you have the means then you should give some to charity, if not for animals then for other unfortunate souls out there.

Knowing that, i think i could sleep a bit better tonight.

Towel Wrap for Christmas!

Christmas is 4 months away but i’m sure you agree it’s not too early to do some festive shopping. We all know how difficult it is to get the perfect gifts for everyone at the last minute. If you plan now you’ll avoid the crowd and could purchase the stuff you want before it runs out of stock too.

Here are some great gifts ideas that’ll save your time without burning a hole in your pocket.

The towel wrap from posylane.com would be great for family or your partner. The soft mint material shows how much you care plus the designs available are really funky too. It comes in sizes so it fits adults and toddlers. If you are looking for terry towel wrap, they have them too with assorted designs as well.

Actually most things in posylane.com makes great gifts because of their customization option. You can personalized the items with embroideries and the name of the receiver. For example you could make a personal touch with the  personalized duffle bag. Fantastic!

They are mint bath towel wrap from posylane.com. They come in so many selections of colors, designs and sizes. Don’t you just hate it when the towel keeps coming off while you dry your hair? I just hate it! These soft towel wraps doesn’t pull so it’s great. Plus if you don’t like the design or you could like to get it as a gift for friends and family, you could always customize it by adding the name of the recipient and a personal greeting with embroidery and choosing the thread color and font of your choice.

Other than that, posylane have other stuff that’s perfect as a gift such as the nap mat for toddlers and the laundry bag. These two product also comes in varies colors and designs and a customization option.

Personalized Children’s Plates

As i walked the aisle of the departmental store, the boyfriend smacked my hands for the umpteenth time. I was having a hard time deciding a gift for a friend’s new born baby so she would be so mesmerized by the smashing present that she’ll graciously bestow upon me the honor of being the child’s godmother. Yeah, i’m so desperate like that.

While trying to spot the perfect gift, i was carelessly scratching my head each time i saw something and my fickle mind goes to work. In the end i gave up and bought an elephant-print baby blanket. Lame, i know but why is it so difficult to find a gift for such a tiny human being?!

Then i got back and mindlessly search for some gift idea on the internet – it’s always good to plan ahead and maybe i’ll find something fantastic for the toddler’s 1st birthday just to make up for the lame blanket. After many similarly lame suggestions from some website, i came upon a page that has a wide range of products and gift ideas for kids and mommies too! Check out the cute name too, Posy Lane. Like that’s so adorable right? They have toddler backpack, stickers, nap mats and what do you know – baby blankets that are nicer than the one i bought. Great.

Next time i’ll be the kid’s favorite aunt coz i’ll get the coolest gift for her, a personalized children’s plates from Posy Lane. Even when she’s eating she’ll be reminded of me! I’m such a great godmother.

Happy Valentine’s MyB

MyB,

Happy Valentine’s Day!! XOXOXOXOXO!

I’m writing this for the sake of our tradition of me making your eyes water on every Valentine and Birthday. *wakaka! I’m just kidding :P

But unlike last time, i’m going to keep this short and hopefully sweet… because i’m really running out of idea ok. A girl has only got so many ways of professing her undying love alright? Ok, i’m glad you agree with me like always.

So, for this Valentine all i want is to tell you that i love you and that i wish you will take better care of your health because i just can’t imagine life without you… although i wouldn’t mind a trip to Spain, a diamond necklace or a ring, a Kate Spade or even a house in Desa Park City. And that is no joke.

Muacks!

McKinney Dickens Festival

The downside of living in the city during Christmas is you don’t get to attend old fashioned Christmas festivals such as the McKinney Dickens festival in Texas.

The downtown McKinney’s premier festival is a joyous festival complete with Victorian atmosphere where there are horse drawn carriages, strolling carolers, Santa Claus and Christmas tree lighting. But most important of all is that the festival has a snow tubing hill. Isn’t it great?! I love snow tubing! It’s exhilarating! It’s an excellent activity for the family but i must warn you to be careful because it might get really bumpy down the hill. Hold on tight!

Anyways, there will be all kind of fun activities for all ages. There will be wonderful restaurants and shops around for everyone too enjoy during the holiday season. During December, the opening hours of the shops in McKinney will also be extended. Customers could take this opportunity to finish up the Christmas shopping at the many bookstores, boutiques, galleries and gifts shops around the town. Who knows what great gifts you might be able to find for your loved ones.

McKinney Dickens starts on the 28th November as a kick start to Christmas in December. Don’t miss the good food and old charm of the Dicken’s era!
