Sister’s KL Wedding Reception

Sister's KL Wedding Reception

Ah! Finally i’ve gotten around to posting some of the photo’s from the sister’s KL reception help at Duck King Restaurant.

The special date was 01/01/2011 :).

I still haven’t collected the actual photo (taken by Andreas) from the sister. Here are those taken by the second sister.

Before we head to the restaurant to usher the guests, we had a short photography session amongst both family at Maya hotel.

Here’s one with my handsome brother in law.

And here’s us sisters looking like beauty pageants LOL!

Lovely fresh lily corsages from Floristika.

Duck King Restaurant turned out to be a great place to have a wedding reception. The hall is gorgeous even with minimal decorations. I simply adore the green carpet and the pretty glass Lazy Susan on each table. The food was awesomely superb. The best food i had at a wedding!

It was a surprise that all the guests actually turned up on time. I expected to seat at the reception table for quite long (this being a typical Chinese wedding plus victim of Malaysian time) but we had things wrapped up before the appetizer was served.

Ah the band of brothers….

Mom wore a gorgeous kebaya but i still think she look better in the green saree that she wore at the Sungai Petani reception.

Our god father was even happier than my dad i think. Haha.

Sis in pretty pink saree with the hubby.

The saree was from India (she bought it when she was on business trip there).

By the way, i’m soon to be an ah yi (aunt)! Tee hee!!!

CNY Eve Reunion Dinner and the rest of the CNY

CNY Eve Reunion Dinner and the rest of the CNY

I should really shut up about CNY already before someone aims a rotten mandarin orange at me. This is going to be the last CNY related post, i promise :P.

To begin, here’s the youngest sister camwhoring with the oranges.

It feels so good to have privacy and a spacious house to celebrate the eve of CNY. This year we gathered at my sister’s place at Bukit Gasing instead of at home. I just love her place – spacious, cool and peaceful. Ah… not a bad start to the new year!

Oh, that’s me in my brand new pink Mickey T-shirt. LOL.

As usual we had yee sang as appetizer.

How come people always link CNY with money, money and more money? Everyone at the table were yelling “Huat ah!”, “Win lottery ah!”, “Get promotion and big bonus ah!” and the likes. Haha!

Next year i’m going to wish for world peace instead. Yeah right… ok, right after i strike lottery i’ll wish for world peace.

HK made his shop’s signature braised duck and it was the most delicious duck ever. It’s too bad about the incident with his customer. He ended up dividing the whole duck into 2 so our families (his and mine) could share. -_-”

The rest of the food was great! But i ended up over-stuffed and had nightmares of giant prawns chasing me that night.

The rest of the CNY was boring as usual but not so bad because only a few relative came to pay visit. The amount of angpau money i received is so pathetic; i am ashamed to even blog about it.

The food i had during the few days of festivity could actually amount to food i normally take in 6 months. Serious.

The CNY movies on screen were the same old slapstick Hongkie comedies. I didn’t watch any btw coz i really cannot stand Hongkie comedies. Yawn…

Now i’m back to my normal diet (thanks god!) and normal routine (sien!).

So that’s it la. CNY in KL is nothing special. So boring can die.

About CNY

Phew! CNY is almost over but i’m still in a holiday mood. I guess most of us are LOL. It’s really hard to press the power button to my laptop, it seems so long since i typed on the keyboard!

Yesterday was the big day for the Hokkien clan so we took the opportunity to catch Valentine’s Day at Cineleisure. So clever of the boyfriend *Clever boy!*.

The cineplex was quite empty and we got good seats too. Valentine’s Day was surprisingly rather good and enjoyable given that i rarely watch cheesy romantic comedies. Thank god this wasn’t cheesy at all and i laughed throughout the whole movie. Definitely recommended.

As for the CNY this year, i would say that it is one of the enjoyable ones… well it was better than last year anyways. Yes, definitely.

Everyone was was in a super good mood because mom was getting well and we got over the cancer scare. But i suspect mostly it was because we successfully avoided some really nosy good-for-nothing relatives for most days.

What is it with relatives that back stabs you whenever they get the opportunity but comes in throngs to your house during CNY smiling like idiots?? Those relatives, i can live without.

And, and i’ve been only asked once “When are you getting married??” this year which is like a whole new record. I’m really happy *wakakakaka! I guess everyone got tired of asking already :P.

I was telling the boyfriend of how CNY is actually making us poorer and it’s a really sad occasion. Really it is.

I’m not being a grouch but first you become broke from buying all the new clothes (shirts, pants skirt, bag, panties, bra….etc) then you become even more broke by giving part of your hard earned bonus to your parents and siblings and grandparents then you gain a few pounds from all the Shandy and beer and cookies so you become so fat and depress. Don’t even kid yourself that you will get lots of angpows because it won’t even cover your expenses.

CNY is really for kids and old people. They get the most of it don’t they? Hmmm….

Ok, i’m going to stop being a grouch now.

Well, this year we took super lots of photos thanks to my second elder sis whose like totally a camwhore queen. But i won’t post it today because there are some missing and i have to wait for eternity for her to send them over.

This is taken during the reunion dinner at Remember 126 restaurant at Bukit Tinggi (ignore the cheesy name pls *chucks*).

Here is a video we took during the yee sang tossing.

We were tossing the yee sang and i dropped my chopsticks in the sang. I’m such a klutz! :P.

Sunny Day

It’s been raining for the past few weeks. It was cold and damp, i don’t remember days in the past where it rained so much, non-stop 24 hours a day. Don’t you miss the warmth of the sun? I do. Kobe too. She’s been missing her daily walks in the park.

Mr.Sunshine is up and blazing today. :)

But now, i’m worried the weather will get too hot with the new year coming.

We are never satisfied aren’t we? :S

By the way i’ve been to see the dermatologist yesterday and it’s good news. I think my skin is getting better now. Cross my fingers. Now to tackle the flab…. i shall take up swimming again…

Some photos taken on the weekends during Pipu’s Birthday at Ho Bahn.

The group photo.

Gifts with Meaning

Gifts with Meaning

The general perception of bears is they are cute and cuddly. Yes, they could be dangerous and could possibly kill you in a brutal attack but we still think they are warm and adorable creatures which they really are if we are not so stupid to provoke them.

But of course we know that and the general perception that the bears are big snuggly animals that’s nice to hug is still intact. This goes to explain the dozens of teddy bear soft toys in our bedroom. We love teddy bears. We can’t resist them. We buy teddy merchandises. We longed for the big huge life size teddy by the shop window of Memory Lane.

You know, i’m extremely tired and barely able to get up today. The boyfriend and i spent the night going through animalasia.org looking at photos after photos of the poor adorable moon bears.

Have you heard of the Moon Bears plight? It’s been going on since 1995 and i am surprise at myself for not being aware of it (being the self professed animal lover and all). I actually came across the founder’s blog long before when i was reading about the culling of dogs in China but didn’t have the guts to go though the posts afraid i might bawl like a baby (because i’m a champion cry baby). I really did not need another sad story in my conciseness that day.

However, last night the boyfriend was telling me the horrible stories of how moon bears’ bile are being harvest for the use of traditional Chinese medicine. I’ve got to read it and see the photos for myself and when i did i couldn’t begin to tell you how it affected me.

I read of  how cruel the bears are treated – being incarcerated (some since baby) in cages too small that they could not move for years and years, how the confinement caused stunted growth in some cases, how the dirty catheters inserted to extract bile in their abdomen gets infected and causes multiple organ failures which the bear have to endure for years till they die, how their paws are chopped off to prevent them from scratching out the catheters, how diseased the bears have become which made them blind, brain damaged, violent even. Bears in painful custom metal jackets designed to protect the dirty latex contraption for extraction of bile.

How could someone be so cruel?  Do they not have a conscious?

Come on, look at them!

The boyfriend and i gave a small donation for the cause last night and i felt better that we did something. We decided to sponsor a bear next year after the pay raise. It’ll be about USD45 (approx. RM154) per month which is a bit costly but we are thinking about it or at least we’ll befriend a bear for a mere USD80 (approx. RM274) per year. It’s really cool because you get annual photos and updates on your bear. It’s like owning one.

Going through the website again today i found a page at the Gift Shop where you can choose specific gifts for the bears such as food (pots of honey, tub of raisins, fruit baskets), toys (hammock, swings, etc)  and medical services (vet care, health check, etc).

It’s really sweet actually and i think i’ll buy a pot of honey for a special bear this Christmas. It just cost USD8.00 per pot to make a bear happy for the festive season. Plus they’ll send you a nice card. It’ll do as a nice and thoughtful gift to someone to be donated on behalf on and it’ll be a great way to educate the kids.

By the way, if you’re wondering, this is not a paid post or anything. I’m just really passionate about animals. Although not passionate enough to be an activist but i like to do my part. I believe that if you have the means then you should give some to charity, if not for animals then for other unfortunate souls out there.

Knowing that, i think i could sleep a bit better tonight.

And It Was Chinese New Year

CNY is soon over. Let me see… 1 2 3 4…yep 4 more days to go before the firecrackers dies down. What the hell happened to the firecracker-ban this year? I mean like, the pasar malam in Kepong was like a crackers-haven. Even the guy selling pirated games converted his stall selling firecrackers ler. I haven’t had a good night sleep since. Wtf.

This year CNY wasn’t too bad despite those blardy neighbors kids throwing firecrackers and scaring the hell out of my dogs, coz most relatives are married and… ahem… naturally they neglected to come for house visit this year. Oh well, the less the better. Less relative, less drama right? *wakakaka!

Surprisingly though, this year i raked in more angpow money than before thanks to Mr.Bf’s mom and grandma. Not that i was so keen on getting angpow lar. Relatives kept pestering asking me when it’s going to be my turn. Wtf. It’s none of your business if i die a sorry spinster buried with my farm of cats or dogs for that matter, ok?! Get off my case already! Hmmppff!

Wtf. I was typing this post and suddenly i received a sms from Mr. Bf that made me go wtf. What do you make of this “Wuwuwuwu b saw a big anne hathaway poster hahahaha!”? Wtf right? Dear, Anne Hathaway is mine ok?

Ok, back to my story. How was your CNY? Mine was alright coz i spent most of the time stuffing my face with food… like every other Chinese people during CNY -_-”. First it was the reunion dinner which wasn’t so grand since all the boyfriends were back at their respective hometown. It was simple.

sai gong
Sea cucumber from Sai Gong

Then it was all the minced pork or bak kua and kuih kapit and shandy and oranges and god knows everything that will make you fat! Mom was too lazy too cook and we spent most of the time eating out or chomping on snacks.

In the end we got too bored of Chinese food that we sped to 1 Utama for some sushi! Like wtf right?

Actually this year i had 2 separate “lou sang”. One with the family and another with friends. The later was at SS2 Ang Kee restaurant. I regret not asking the boss for a ladder. The higher you toss it the better wat. No meh? Who came up with the idea of lou sang anyway? Must be a business man or a restaurant owner… what a rip off…

And here are the pictures. I’m just learning the tricks with Photoshop. I’m a slow learner. Nice or not? Don’t care have to say nice or i’ll eat you!
