Arthur’s Day

Arthur's Day

It’s bad enough that the Black Eyed Peas concert in conjunction of Arthur’s Day does not allow Muslims but Arthur’s Day without alcohol??!

Ridiculous!

That’s like having chocolate mousse cake without the chocolate.

So they are going to sell Peel Fresh at the Guinness celebration is it? “An orange toast to Arthur! 250th year, aye aye! Oh look nutritious orange pulps!”. *groan*

And what is the point of the “no bitter sweet brew” rule when only non-Muslims are allowed to attend? Ain’t that contractictive?

There people have no logic, no logic at all.

Jazz Night Out

Last Sunday we were at KLCC for dinner at Nippon Tei before rushing to Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) hall for the Preservation Hall Jazz Band at 8.30pm.

I wore my little black dress… the only little black dress i have which weren’t too short at the hemline for the occasion after all. Mr. Bf had to wear a shirt which he detest because he hate wearing shirts. I once asked him if he were to find a job that requires him to wear formal working attire, what would he do. He thank god profusely that his current job doesn’t requires that. That answered my question. LOL.

Anyhow, it is Mr. Bf’s first time at MPO and attending such ‘concert’ and my second time there so i was pretty excited. My first was during college for a classical play. I just love MPO. The hall is really fantastic and the sound is superb. Just being in the magnificent hall makes me feel a little classier than usual.

The hall were fully packed mostly with audiences of all ages and a lot of expats anticipating a great performance. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band who came all the way from New Orleans did not failed us and was fantastic as expected. I fell in love with jazz music all over again.

The band did their charm, they were entertaining and funny and full of character, experts with their instruments, cajoling the crowd with their funny antiques and hilarious lyrics. It was really awesome to see that more than a handful of the audience unembarrassed to thump their feet on the carpeted floor or gently sway (in their seats of course) to the beat of the music. I myself couldn’t help nodding and swaying my shoulders left and right throughout the performance.

The show lasted for 1 and a half hour which i regret was kind of short. Before the show ended the audiences were asked to stand up while the band played the very well known “When the Saints Go Marching In” made famous my Louis Armstrong.

Did you know that the song is traditionally used as a funeral march or also known as the jazz funeral in New Orleans? Not very appropriate but it got everyone warmed up since most of us knows the lyrics so everyone was clapping and singing too.

The band then started to parade down the aisle down to the audience and then around the whole hall while inviting us to join in the parade! It was really fun since the audience were to follow them up the stage and dance to that number. I wish i had gone up too but i was sitting in the far inside so i was contented to watch in envy the group of people enjoying themselves, let their hair down for once on stage.

To my surprise, the band then started to head towards the door and outside of the hall with streams of audiences on their trail dancing and laughing. That marked the end of the concert but not the end of the show. What a sight it was when the band paraded down to the lobby still playing their instruments, attracting more and more crowd on their way down. It was awesome!

Then there was an autographs session for their new Volume I album. Smart way to promote their album huh? LOL.

Too bad i didn’t get their signature because there were too many people but it was a really great night.

He Will Be Deeply Missed

He Will Be Deeply Missed

I dreamed of being an illegal immigrant in Hong Kong, dressed in disarray with hair pinned up in a dishevel state. I lugged around in one hand a fake China-made bag full of daily necessities and clothing obviously packed in haste, the end of a trouser hanging out of the half zipped bag. In my other hand holds a huge blue/red striped plastic bag containing the few pots and pans i have, the noisy clanking attracting people’s stare.

The dream is very strange in a sense it’s not horribly scary but somehow left me in a state of recklessness and discomfort. Besides a desperate urge to migrate out of Malaysia, i don’t have an extra fondness towards Hong Kong nor any favor of China fakes. So why Hong Kong of all places? I don’t know. All i know is i pray hard i’ll never fall into poverty or have to carry anything heavier than a designer Burberry handbag or a Coach tote for that matter.

Oddly even when i woke up this morning my arms and legs ached as if i had been pumping irons in the gym. For a minute i am glad i work at home thus there’s no need for me to drag my sore body to out of bed too soon. Nonetheless, i had a feeling that it’s definitely not going to be an ordinary day today.

First thing i do every morning is to turn on the bathroom lights and brush my teeth. Then almost mindlessly i’ll hit the power button on my faithful laptop. This morning is no different but i was greeted by a feed update written by Kelvin. It caught me by surprise. It must be a joke right? But April Fool is long over.

Kelvin Chow may you RIP the King of Pop, Michael Jackson

But it wasn’t a joke at all. The King of Pop had passed away this morning.

Today had indeed proven not to be an ordinary day.

My initial thought was “Oh, not another suicide? Damn!”. It’s not my purpose of being judgmental and unfair but with all the things going on with Micheal Jackson, his almost grotesque-like face, the legal proceedings with him getting sued like for the umpteenth times and his on and off comeback concert in the planning, it is easily for anyone to dismiss his death as a suicide attempt. Hell, if he was me and i was him, i would be in a suicidal state.

I only found out much later in the morning, after tuning into the local radio station that he died of suspected cardiac arrest. May he rest in peace.

It’s funny to recall the people making fun of MJ’s plastic nose and his affair and fondness of kids are the same people who are now deeply affected by his death. I am guilty as charge. I too often say not the kindest things about the King of Pop in the past. But that’s humans nature for you, we are mean and superficial and we are quick to pass judgment on others mistake.

Be that as it may, i and many others still remain an avid fan of MJ. The dozens of uncountable wishes in facebook alone is evident of MJ’s iconic influence. As of 3 pm today, there are already 255,886 fans who had signed the online virtual Memorial for Michael Jackson. By tonight the figure would be amazingly tripled (at least).

You see, I grew up listening to MJ’s music. Many afternoons after school was spent rocking to ‘Beat It’, “I’m Bad”, “Thriller” and “Billie Jean”. In fact, i knew and still know the lyrics by heart.

I vividly remember the year was 1996 and i was in form 2 when MJ staged a concert in KL. Everyone in school was in a frenzy, ecstatic over this chance of a life time to watch the King. I was utterly devastated that i did not get to go because apparently my parents didn’t believed in life after school then.

Nevertheless, friends of mine got to go and they spent the whole week before the concert preparing for it, binoculars and all. On the night of the concert i locked myself in the room, blasted MJ’s music from the tape player and sang my heart out. The next day, i spent the whole day in school eating up to friends’ experience, making sure nothing was left out.

It’s amazing that many years after his last album and amidst his scandalous and highly publicized life, he still have and is still gaining fans all over. That is how timeless his music is. He is veritably an international legend.

And as i rummage through my old dusty box full of ancient cassettes, i am in despair that i can’t find my MJ album. I am going to the record store these weekend for a new one.

She is so gorgeous. She’s voluptuous but a very sexy and classy lady.

Man, i’ve gotta have a more positive body image…

Watching the Grammy and remembered the only time i went to a concert was to Linkin Park, and that wasn’t even a real concert. Just when an artist worth watching like Jason Mraz is coming to shore i can’t attend it.

It sucks! I hope it rains and flood or the stadium collapse or something. I hope the concert is cancelled coz i’m so envious of those kiasu people who gets to watch Jason Mraz. I’m going to do a rain dance in Chiang Mai on the concert day and hope it rains hard and harder and even harder till the concert is cancelled.

Now i’m wondering when is Cold Play ever going to come to town. If i miss that i’m going to kill myself -_-”.

On and Off, On and Off

Oh btw, Avril Lavigne concert is on. Great (after much embarrassment) but who cares. I don’t. I’ll be sooner caught dead than be caught watching the concert. I think Ugly Betty is sexier than her.

Malaysia Really Memalukan

This is when i go dig a hole and bury myself in it. The embarrassment. The humiliation.

Avril Lavigne got banned in Malaysia for being too sexy

Totally agree with Joshua. Malaysia should ban Michael Phelps, ban the Internet, ban everything else. No international act wanna come here anymore lar after this. Who wants to deal with the hassle of getting into a tiny country that’ll earn them tiny profits with risk of getting banned anytime.

Malaysia should just ban all foreigners from entering the country. Then we horny Malaysians wouldn’t be turned on by sexy ang moh not covering their skins lor. To hell lar with Malaysia tourism industry lar. Ban, ban, ban!

Come to think of it, Malaysia should also ban those Tongkat Ali and other obat kuat. We wouldn’t want Malaysian men running around with too much ‘energy’ helping out in unlawful fertilization right? Ban!

I am so gonna migrate to a skin baring country.
