CNY Eve Reunion Dinner and the rest of the CNY

CNY Eve Reunion Dinner and the rest of the CNY

I should really shut up about CNY already before someone aims a rotten mandarin orange at me. This is going to be the last CNY related post, i promise :P.

To begin, here’s the youngest sister camwhoring with the oranges.

It feels so good to have privacy and a spacious house to celebrate the eve of CNY. This year we gathered at my sister’s place at Bukit Gasing instead of at home. I just love her place – spacious, cool and peaceful. Ah… not a bad start to the new year!

Oh, that’s me in my brand new pink Mickey T-shirt. LOL.

As usual we had yee sang as appetizer.

How come people always link CNY with money, money and more money? Everyone at the table were yelling “Huat ah!”, “Win lottery ah!”, “Get promotion and big bonus ah!” and the likes. Haha!

Next year i’m going to wish for world peace instead. Yeah right… ok, right after i strike lottery i’ll wish for world peace.

HK made his shop’s signature braised duck and it was the most delicious duck ever. It’s too bad about the incident with his customer. He ended up dividing the whole duck into 2 so our families (his and mine) could share. -_-”

The rest of the food was great! But i ended up over-stuffed and had nightmares of giant prawns chasing me that night.

The rest of the CNY was boring as usual but not so bad because only a few relative came to pay visit. The amount of angpau money i received is so pathetic; i am ashamed to even blog about it.

The food i had during the few days of festivity could actually amount to food i normally take in 6 months. Serious.

The CNY movies on screen were the same old slapstick Hongkie comedies. I didn’t watch any btw coz i really cannot stand Hongkie comedies. Yawn…

Now i’m back to my normal diet (thanks god!) and normal routine (sien!).

So that’s it la. CNY in KL is nothing special. So boring can die.

Pre-CNY Reunion

Pre-CNY Reunion

This year we had our reunion gathering at Restoran Lucky @ Sea Park, PJ. Actually it was a pre-CNY reunion because, well everyone is so busy… basically Ai Leng had to go back to Singapore and the boyfriend had to work on the weekend or something. Like so big business like that lar, ceh!

Here’s our customary pose LOL. We take this every CNY. I cringe at the thought of comparing all our CNY photos and seeing how we had aged through the years. Gawd…

Love this photo of the boyfriend with Briann. He looks like Sinyu from Doraemon.

See the resemblance?!

So we had a good laugh and exchanged juicy gossips about ex-classmates and ex-college mates. Also we lamented about being asked by relatives and friends about when we would get hitched haha.

The food was not bad and i had my first yee sang with these bunch of crazies.

Cheers to another good year ahead!

This year’s CNY reunion dinner wasn’t that bad after all :)

Ahhh to top that, the show on tele was broadcasting about Chinese Zodiacs and their luck this year. Those born in the year of Dog is going to have an almost perfect year! Does that means i have better chance of hitting the jackpot???? I do hope so because this year i am buying more lottery numbers than usual LOL!

Happy Rabbit Year dear people. Wish you all a prosperous and healthy year ahead!

Happy New Year 2011 :P

Happy New Year 2011 :P

My first new post for 2011. I was too busy to wish everyone a Happy, Happy New Year but i guess i still could even though we are already 1 week pass new year.

So, “Happy New Year everyone! A new year, a new beginning and i wish everyone would have a better year ahead!”.

What was i so busy about till i totally abandon this blog of mine for so long? It was my eldest sister’s wedding (the very night of the new year), the first wedding in my nuclear family :). I so busy helping out here and there that it felt like my own wedding! Well, i’m glad it’s over… but it feels kind of boring now that the celebration is over… hmmm…

Anyways a let’s do a recap of my year in 2010… but before that, a sneak peek of the wedding.

The actual photos from the photographer is not ready yet.

Ok let’s recap.

Jan ’10

Mom was diagnosed with Stage I Uterine Cancer. Doc immediately scheduled a hysterectomy to remove the uterus on 1 week after the diagnosis result came out so mom could recover just in time for CNY. It was a very bad and stressful time for all of us. Fortunately the surgery went without a hitch.

I’ve learned that health is really important. I’ve really got to take good care of myself. For those females who had not taken the Cervical Cancer vaccination, i urge you to take it ASAP. I’m going to get mine this on March 2011.

First reunion since leaving college! How time flies!

girl power

Everyone looked great though and we had a good time catching up on old times.

Feb ’10

Another stressful month of the year. The first half of the month was spent nursing and caring for mom at home. Elderly people could be so frustrating to take care off. I nearly had a breakdown due to her constant complaining!
.
.
.
It was also the first time we had a proper meal with my sister’s boyfriend, now my brother-in-law :P. We had a good time at Restaurant 123 @ Bukit Tinggi during the CNY.

March ’10

Nothing much happened in March. There wasn’t anything memorable to blog about except for one thing. It was during this time that the boyfriend and i actually sat down and planned for out future. Well, to me this marked another chapter in our lives even though we still have not get a house yet… still it was a start of our house hunting project.

April ’10

Wow! This is like my favorite month of the year; partly because my birthday falls on this month and partly because the boyfriend and i had consistently scheduled vacations/trips on this month for the pass years.

So on this particular month of 2010 we (sis, bf and i) jumped on the plane and headed to Bali.

First we went to Kuta and i got my very first temporary tattoo.

Then on my birthday we ascended the volcano, Mount Batur.

It was the most awesome birthday ever!

May ’10

Nothing interesting here except Ironman 2 and reruns of NCIS if you count that as something LOL.

June ’10

Pathetic but yes. The latest addition to our home; 42″ Panasonic Viera!

July ’10

Went Glee crazy. See the banner of this blog?

Glee inspired :P
.
.
.
Then i went World Cup crazy! Vuvuzelavuvuzelavuvuzela!

Actually i couldn’t believe that i would enjoy football but hey, World Cup was great! I supported Germany out of spite but Spain won )Spain 1, Germany 0) so the boyfriend was over the moon about it. What’s more, i actually remember the rules of the game so i can’t wait for the next World Cup… this time without the legendary octopus i guess hahaha.

Met Tiger, the neighbor’s pup. Feisty pup which i now miss :(

August ’10

Started using Oratane to treat my bad acne prone skin. Had bad case of chapped lips for months after that!

September ’10

September was a super bad month for me. Had my first relapse of depression which weirdly was triggered after i attended a friend’s wedding. Fortunately i got better after a week of down time.

October ’10

I’m glad i took the first step to learn how to ride a bicycle. It was a disastrous 1 hour at Desa Park City. I still don’t know how to ride but at least i took the first step right? This will be one of the thing to do on my new year resolution list.
.
.
.
Made the most scary and important decision in my life. I became an organ donor. Phew!
.
.
.

Tiger went missing for few months then reappear at the park near my house. She followed me home and that’s how i ended up stowing her away in bf’s condo unit for a week! While we worked on getting her adopted, we had her barred in the kitchen or sometimes the bathroom. I became some sort of a dog sitter then. I’m really sorry she spoiled bf’s favorite pigskin shoes.

November ’10

Tiger was adopted by one of my sister’s friend. Actually he was kind enough to take both Tiger and Milo (another stray on my street).

Unfortunately, they were too much to handle (made a big mess at the family’s shop) and they have to give Milo away to a customer. :(

My only photo of Milo.

.

Got flashed… yet again. Man, this is getting tiring!

December ’10

The whole month of December is dedicated to my sister’s wedding. We welcomed a new addition to out family, my very good looking brother-in-law. We had an Indian wedding reception at Sungai Petani which was an eye opener. I just loved the Indian ceremony. We even wore sarees to the reception… yes, even my mom!

Being the first wedding in my family, it was rather a stressful month but at the end of the day it was good fun!

And that’s all of 2010. Looking forward to 2011, hopefully it’s a good one!

About CNY

Phew! CNY is almost over but i’m still in a holiday mood. I guess most of us are LOL. It’s really hard to press the power button to my laptop, it seems so long since i typed on the keyboard!

Yesterday was the big day for the Hokkien clan so we took the opportunity to catch Valentine’s Day at Cineleisure. So clever of the boyfriend *Clever boy!*.

The cineplex was quite empty and we got good seats too. Valentine’s Day was surprisingly rather good and enjoyable given that i rarely watch cheesy romantic comedies. Thank god this wasn’t cheesy at all and i laughed throughout the whole movie. Definitely recommended.

As for the CNY this year, i would say that it is one of the enjoyable ones… well it was better than last year anyways. Yes, definitely.

Everyone was was in a super good mood because mom was getting well and we got over the cancer scare. But i suspect mostly it was because we successfully avoided some really nosy good-for-nothing relatives for most days.

What is it with relatives that back stabs you whenever they get the opportunity but comes in throngs to your house during CNY smiling like idiots?? Those relatives, i can live without.

And, and i’ve been only asked once “When are you getting married??” this year which is like a whole new record. I’m really happy *wakakakaka! I guess everyone got tired of asking already :P.

I was telling the boyfriend of how CNY is actually making us poorer and it’s a really sad occasion. Really it is.

I’m not being a grouch but first you become broke from buying all the new clothes (shirts, pants skirt, bag, panties, bra….etc) then you become even more broke by giving part of your hard earned bonus to your parents and siblings and grandparents then you gain a few pounds from all the Shandy and beer and cookies so you become so fat and depress. Don’t even kid yourself that you will get lots of angpows because it won’t even cover your expenses.

CNY is really for kids and old people. They get the most of it don’t they? Hmmm….

Ok, i’m going to stop being a grouch now.

Well, this year we took super lots of photos thanks to my second elder sis whose like totally a camwhore queen. But i won’t post it today because there are some missing and i have to wait for eternity for her to send them over.

This is taken during the reunion dinner at Remember 126 restaurant at Bukit Tinggi (ignore the cheesy name pls *chucks*).

Here is a video we took during the yee sang tossing.

We were tossing the yee sang and i dropped my chopsticks in the sang. I’m such a klutz! :P.

Happy Chinese New Year, Gong Hei Fatt Choi!

I just had my ‘tuen yuen fan’ with the family. Boy, am i stuffed… Ok, i could still have a slice of ‘bak kua’ or ‘nin gou’… Ok, i think i’m going to get some snacks now. *wakakaka! I mean like wtf, new year is no time for diet and gluttony-guilt. So, bye bye celery, hello mince pork!

Happy Chinese New Year! Peace, Fortune and Prosperity everyone!
