More Savings with Straight Talk

This post brought to you by Straight Talk. All opinions are 100% mine.

The phone bill came in the mail the other day and i almost fainted. The total balanced due to be paid was ridiculously high compared to the number of calls and texting we use for the entire month, the boyfriend’s bill and mine combined. Initially we thought switching from pre-paid to a post-paid line with supplementary option at our current network provider will save us some money but now i think it’s not such a good idea after all.

Any recommendation for the best network provider in town?

How about Straight Talk? I heard you could instantly cut down your bill into half and save you the extra expenditure just by switching to Straight Talk. Imagine the things you could buy with the extra cash in your pockets. I know exactly what i would buy; the gorgeous satchel from Braun Buffel i saw in the mall the other day. I would have bought it but then my phone bill came and my dream crushed. Perhaps Straight Talk would be the key to saving extra shopping money. Perfect for women and moms and as we all know mom knows best.

Besides with Straight Talk there’s no annual contract so there’s no obligation at all to continue if you are not satisfied. I heard that the coverage is extremely good and reception excellent so no more disturbing noises in the background when you call a friend or getting cut-off in the middle of an important conversation. Don’t we all hate that?!

So what’s the monthly plan like?

They offer a package for unlimited service which includes calls, text, picture messaging and web usage for just $45 per month. Or for a better and cheaper deal, enroll for the 1 year unlimited package for just $499 a year. Both plans includes unlimited 411 calls. For heavy users you will have everything you need with the “All You Need” plan which offers 1,000 minutes, 1,000 text and 30MB web data inclusive of 411 calls with no extra charge. Everything is free – there’s no hidden charges i.e. termination fees, activation fees, reactivation fees and etc.

I’m fairly interested in long distance call option because my sister stays in Singapore and some close friends are in the UK. Chatting with them could cost me a bomb. It’s good to know that Straight Talk International Long Distance Service is a flexible prepaid service with low rates. Definitely worth considering.

Only trusted phone manufacturers are used such as Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and etc. Reconditioned phones are available at Straight Talk too with a incredible prices as low as $10. These phones include camera, mp3 player, mobile web access and blue-tooth. Smart phoes with touch screens and music player plus all the apps are available too.

Sounds like a bargain to me!

Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir dan Batin

Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir dan Batin

Hari Raya is just a few days away which mean the balik kampung exodus will begin probably as early as today. This year Hari Raya clashes with Merdeka Day and Malaysians; Muslim and non-Muslim alike are welcoming the week long holidays with anticipation.

What are your plans? I’ll probably chill at home and sneak in some shopping spree but the boyfriend will be working the entire public holidays. Never mind, that means extra moolahs for shopping haha. I’m joking. He bestowed upon me the responsibility of planning a road trip for after Raya. I’ll have to remember to do that.

You know i’m really missing homemade kuih raya and cookies and rendangs and ketupats and all the other gastronomic food associated with Hari Raya. That’s the disadvantage of not having a regular 9 to 5 job. Gone are the days when you get to sample all the mouthwatering food brought to office by the Malay colleagues. Darn i miss the homemade pineapple tart they use to sell at HLB during raya.

Any kind soul willing to satisfy my rendang and lemang craving?

To everyone out there “Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Happy Merdeka Day and Happy Holidays!”.

Oh, do drive safely and look out for speed traps!

Gardasil For Men

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a type of virus that infects human. Each one of us is susceptible to the infection especially those who are sexually active as a high number of HPV types are transmitted through sexual contact. It is associated with approximately 70% of cervical cancer cases in woman.

It has become a public health concern prompting the health division to actively create public awareness. Students are offered free vaccination and many brochures and posters are displayed in clinics and hospital around the country, urging the public to get vaccinated.

Coming from a family with history of cancer, i fully well understand the seriousness and the need to get vaccinated. Trust me, you really do not want take the risk. My sisters had taken their jabs and i just took my second jab yesterday, the final jab is in December. It is very pricey (RM900 for 3 jabs) but it’s absolutely necessary.

That being said, there are 2 vaccine currently available in the market; Gardasil and Cervarix. Both vaccines protects against 2 HPV types (HPV-16 and HPV-18) which causes cervical, genital, head and neck cancers. However, Gardasil protects against 2 more HPV types (HPV-6 and HPV-11) that cause genital warts; Cervarix does not. Therefore, naturally Gardasil cost slightly more than Cervarix.

There are a conflicting opinion regarding these 2 vaccines; some find the other better than the other. Gardasil received many negative comments regarding negative side effects which causes aftermath health problem. I’m not too sure about this but as for my sisters and i, we did not suffer from any side effects other than the sting when the jab is administered which was rather painful.

I wasn’t aware of it till yesterday when the nurse informed me that Gardasil is also available for males. Gardasil for men prevents against warts, anal cancer and penile cancer caused by HPV and some potentially precancerous lesions caused by some HPV types. Male from the age of 9 onward are qualified for the jab. It’s something to be considered by our male counterpart.

A Very Adorable and Handsome Boy

Time flies, it’s almost a month since we welcome Rahul into our family. He’s growing so fast and he’s healthy. My parents are visiting my sister and the baby almost every weekend and when they don’t get to see him, my phone becomes their victim of constant flipping through my photo gallery for photos of Rahul.

He’s really adorable and i think he’s extremely intelligent. Kicking and crying when he wants something, making faces and sleeping on his side when he’s less than 2 weeks old. Now barely a month old he already knows how to turn his whole body 180° by himself, sleeping on his stomach.

Some photos taken during our visits.

Baby Rahul Day 3

This one look like a fat Nepalese baby LOL!

Baby Rahul Day 5

Sleeping soundly on his baby cot.

That’s me carrying him.

And mom.

A very happy grandfather.

Perhaps he’ll grow up to be an actor? Look at his facial expression.

That’s my younger sis holding him.

Ending with a super cheeky face.

Ps:// Is it possible to get bored with updates about your baby nephew? I mean yeah when i see him or his photos i go “Awwww gosh he’s so cute!” but i’m just not so into babies. Does that make you cold-blooded? Does it? I’m worried. Perhaps i’m not suitable to have kids. Oh god, but who’s going to take care of my when i’m old and immobilized? I ponder in horror. Surely i’m going to feel all loving and warm when i have my own baby next time right? Right?

Ooohhh i’m a bit late. Just watched this yesterday and it rendered me speechless. This looks like a ready full-fledged rehearsal for National Day parade or maybe the Olympics… only in extremely bad taste LOL!

Seems like the staffs really worship Tan Sri Teh… er i mean Public Bank. But hey i don’t blame them, if i were the receiving end of huge bonuses i’ll kneel down on my knees too.

The organizers should be permanently banned from handling anymore events in the future though. Come on, cosplay and spaceship and 4WD?!! Over the top tasteless!

Martial Arts, Cowboys and Aliens

Martial Arts, Cowboys and Aliens

Two strange movies on a weekend. Horrid? Not really. Super? Definitely not. Average? Sometimes. Enjoyable? Can’t make up my mind.

First it was Wu Xia, another showcase of Donny Yen’s brilliant kung fu kicks and punches. He would never win any award for his acting but martial arts is his forte and he kick ass at it alright

Wu Xia is not the usual action packed kung fu movies. In fact it’s a bit slow paced and at times long winded. Takeshi Kaneshiro plays a detective in the movie and he almost stole the show with his comedic timing. He got most of the dialogue anyways. Reminds me of an olden times Chinese Sherlock Holmes, even the flashback slow motion fighting scenes have the essence of scenes from the Sherlock Holmes movie.

I’m left wondering how it is possible that his command of Cantonese language have not improved after a decade in the industry.

Donny Yen is Donny Yen. Marvelous fluid kung fu, poor villains beaten up like sandbags. But there’s more talk than action in this movie so it’s kind of a bore.

The pace caught up towards the ending – more fighting scenes. Yay!

The background music during the kung fu scenes is almost comical but cool. Erm, how do you actually describe it? Like background music for Spiderman or other superhero movies.

The ending was a tad anti-climax though. If you’ve watch this movie you would know what i mean. Zap! And the huge man with superhuman strength and power went down. Tsk tsk tsk.

The next day against all odds, we bought tickets for Cowboys & Aliens (CA).

Have i mentioned how wonderful it is going to the cinema on the fasting month? Yes, it feels great that you could choose whatever movie you desire and there’s no queuing and no blinking red SOLD OUT sign above the ticket counter. Bliss.

I guess it’s not a very good idea watching this movie. After all, i’ve not hear a positive comment about it. Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford is a strange combo plus i have lost hope in Harrison Ford ever since the last Indiana Jones movies (Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) premiered three years back. If there’s any other sign that this movie is not going to win any awards it’s Steven Spielberg’s involvement in it – his near criminal obsession over aliens and all.

Probably should have heed the warnings and save ourselves the RM22. Could have bought us a few dozens of Ikea curry puffs instead.

But being a fan of Western cowboy movies (ok i’m super tomboy) plus a crazy fan of Indiana Jones movies (before the aliens took over on the Kingdom of Crystal Skulls that is) and Daniel Craig is always on my hottie list, we sat through the show.

If nothing else, Craig’s sexy butt beckons.

See?

Super tight, tight omg cowboy pants y’all!

The backdrop of CA is impressive, that’s if you love dust, canyons, saloons and every element in cowboy movies. Yes, i likey. Plot wise it leaned towards being ridiculous, not for the alien invading earth to remove every evident of gold on earth but for Jack Lonergan (Craig) to actually get possession of the metal-bracelet-cum-super-power-weapon-thingy from the evil aliens is really far fetch. How could the alien be naive enough to remove the weapon from their… uh arm? tentacles?… and place it conveniently next to the human’s easy reach. Well what did i expect from a movie with cowboys and aliens in a mix…

I was bored from the start, the middle and towards the ending i was still bored. The aliens wasn’t scary enough even though the person sitting next to us was screaming atrociously, Ford wasn’t convincing enough, Sam Rockwell (plays Doc in CA) really annoys me whichever movie he is in, Olivia Wilde is hot in a weird kind of way but it kind of gave me the feeling that she’s in the movie just for the sake of having a female in the set. I like the dog though, very cute.

Oh, Daniel Craig is very cute too. Almost made up for all the yawns.
