Snatch Thieves, Break-ins and now Drug Trafficking

Whatever happened to my housing area? Drug trafficking oh my gosh! Living is Malaysia is seriously so dangerous nowadays!

First, i see more and more foreign faces at my area when i walk my dogs. I’m not joking. I think my area had graduated into an area with houses for the aging people else they are rented out to foreign workers. Sometimes i’m afraid to even walk my dogs because there will be some foreigners hanging out at the park, i’m hope they are not dog-eating-Vietnamese.

It’s already sad that i hear so many cases of neighbors being robbed or their handbag being snatched. It’s like every other week too that i hear about break-ins in my area. It’s crazy. At least once a month i see police cars parked outside one of the houses in the neighborhood (or next neighborhood).

My sis even witnessed with her own eyes, a stranger with a plastic bag over his head trying to climb into our neighbors house last month. It was raining but it was in broad daylight nonetheless!

Now this!

Suspected drug pusher shot while trying to mow down police

KUALA LUMPUR: A man believed to be a drug trafficker was seriously injured after he was shot by police for trying to mow them down while attempting to escape in an incident in Jalan Chiak, Kepong Baru, here, Tuesday.

Sentul district police deputy chief Supt Zainuddin Ahmad said in the 6.30pm incident, police received information about drug trafficking activity at a field in the area.

“An officer and five policemen were then asked to check it out where they saw a blue Honda car and a Nissan Fairlady approaching the place.

“They saw something being handed over which was suspectsd to be drugs and after our men identified themselves, the two drivers tried to flee, with the one in the Honda car trying to mow them down,” he said via SMS when contacted by Bernama.

Zainuddin said the police then fired some shots which hit the driver on his shoulder, chest and rib cage, with his car skidding and crashing into the parameter wall of a house nearby.

The injured man was taken to Selayang Hospital but the driver of the other managed to escape during the incident.

From the police investigation, it was found that the 32-year-old injured suspect had a previous criminal record for causing hurt with a weapon.

On inspecting his car, police found 45 Ecstasy pills and did not dismiss the possibility of the suspect being involved in drug trafficking.

Police will be applying for a remand order on the suspect once his condition is stable to assist in the investigation.

The boyfriend and i happened to pass by the crime scene the night it happened. Gave me goosebumps knowing it’s so near my parents place. It happened just on the opposite end of our row!

I’m quick losing hope in Malaysia. It’s not safe anymore :(.

How i Became an Organ Donor

How i Became an Organ Donor

This is a huge, huge life-changing decision that i made in just 2 seconds at Tesco.

There was a blood donation drive near the escalator and there were kind faced school kids in Red Crescent uniforms all over the place, managing registration counters, attending to blood donors and giving out pamphlets. It was chaos at the small area.

One thing i’m proud of being a Malaysian is there are no shortage of blood donors here. Blood donation drives are always crowded with good Samaritans who couldn’t wait to give some blood.

I’m shameful to say that i’ve never donated blood in my life. Not that i’m afraid of the needle, god knows how many times i had my blood drawn by the doctors. But i have this paranoia of catching a deadly disease from unsterilized needles… and it doesn’t help that the sister keeps telling me that donating blood will make me fat because my body goes into an overdrive to produce more blood, even more that before to replace the lost blood. It’s a common misconception i know but hell i’m still afraid of HIV.

Saying that, i have no idea what came over me when i saw the registration counter for organ donation. The boyfriend asked me to wait while he filled up the donor’s form (he had always wanted to be a donor – my hero) and just like that i sat down and filled in my own form.

That’s how i became a donor. Someone would get my kidney, my heart, my liver, my blood after i’m dead – i sure hope no one would go to the extreme of terminating me because they desperately need my organs. My eyeballs i’m going to keep. I draw the line at eyeballs. It’s personal.

I had the strangest feeling when i ticked on the organ column to decide what i would donate; it’s like i’m ticking my life away. It’s one of the scariest moments of my life. It’s hard to describe my emotion then, i know it won’t hurt when they harvest the organs because i’ll be dead of course but it’s hard to visualize some stranger cutting into me without feeling terrified. Even as we drove off with the donor card in my wallet, I couldn’t help but think that I had just downright jinxed my life. It’s hard to shake off the foreboding feeling.

I don’t regret the decision knowing i might saved someones life but like i said it’s a huge decision that i made in 2 seconds without taking into account how my family especially my parents would react. I feel slightly irresponsible because i did not discuss it with my parents even though i do not need their consent legally.

If you’re going to be a donor, be prepared emotionally and mentally. It’s not an easy thing to do.

Happy Raya and Happy Malaysia Day!

I’m late again… and this is another bunched up greetings-cum-post fillers which i noticed is becoming a trend here on my blog.

It’s such a busy month and i’m wishing that the end of the month arrives soon before i fall sick from fatigue.

His parents and aunt are down for holidays, my sis (which i don’t really get along with) is also here for a week, we are still house hunting albeit not very successful because finding a good agent is a bitch and of course the time constraint, then there’s the house warming not to mention weddings to attend which also means wedding gift and dinner dress hunting. Everything is going on in the same blardy month.

Phew!

Anyways, don’t let me dampen the spirit.

Let me wish all the Muslims a Selamat Hari Raya – even if i’m too late, and a Happy, happy Malaysia Day!

Here’s a video from Digi which i find both heart warming and hilariously cute.

Talented guy huh?

The tagline “We are all different. But still same same” kind of remind me of the trekking guides we met in Chiang Mai. They thought we were Japanese at first but when we told them we were Malaysian Chinese the laughed and said “Different but same same”. It quickly became a overly used verse on our whole trekking session. Every time we met Europeans or Americans the guys will shout “Different but same same”.

I guess we are all the same no matter where we are in the world :).

2010 Book Fest Goodies

2010 Book Fest Goodies

RM500++ worth of goodies from the recent BookFest @ Malaysia 2010!

I’m like still recovering from the daze; i mean how can we have spent RM500 all on books?! I could have easily got a new Fossil leather bag for the same price.

But can get tax rebate right? Ok, never mind, i feel much better now when i think about the tax rebate. Breath in, breath out, breath in, breath out….

This year we had a great haul compared to last year which we only bout 2 sets of books. This year it was a bargain. Coincidently we bought equal amount (in height lar) of books.

See?

I didn’t know that the book fest is held from 4th Sept till 12 Sept 2010; i thought it ends in the weekend so we rushed there. It was worth it though. The ranges of English books were more than the previous years. There were bargain corners also where books were sold for only RM16.90. Awesome.

The boyfriend is a sucker for sets. He just can’t resist getting book sets. Obsessiveness is going to run in our family. Hmm…

Anyways he got 2 sets of books; one is the geeky set of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (5 in a set) and the other is a Chinese novel i don’t know what the title is (4 in a set). He also bought a stamp set for around RM150.

As for me, mine is the pile on the right. <3

Actually the books just cost us around RM400 if not for the stamp set that i don’t know why the bf absolutely must have. Never mind it’s his hard earn money so he is entitled to treat himself once in a while.

Breath in, breath out, breath in, breath out…

Happy 53rd Merdeka to All Malaysians

Looks like Namewee is at it again. Launched himself into a whole lot of trouble yet again.

This is a lash back to the recent racial slur by a headmistress of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Selambau, Kedah.

I am surprised that there are still such backwards thinking people in Malaysia and especially surprised that these racial comments are uttered from the mouth of educationists; headmistresses at that – this case and another one concerning another headmistress from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra in Johor.

Are we still second class citizen in this country or what? Sigh… It’s racist like this that is pushing Malaysians away from the country to work abroad.

But let’s not fuel the situation any further. We all know that not all people think like that. The fact is we all have good friends from all different races and we get along just fine. So i say just ignore those hypocrites.

So, Happy Merdeka everyone.

To Haunt or Not to Haunt

To Haunt or Not to Haunt

We are currently on a look out for houses. Hopefully will be able to get one before the end of the year but the houses in the market that we could afford are either in Cheras which i don’t really prefer or some other places like Puchong or Shah Alam which is very far from KL.The prices had gone up too.

On our list for considerations are those in Bandar Sri Damansara or Taman Bukit Maluri, Kepong which is both near to my parents place and to Desa Park City. The boyfriends love the fact that it’s near Desa Park because i quote “It’s easier when we move to Desa Park in a few years time, it’s just next door” to which i rolled my eyes and replied “Dream on lar” -_-”.

Me, i just like that it’s near Desa Park so i could walk my dogs and go jogging in the well-guarded park without feeling that i’m in danger of being kidnapped by a sadist rapist.

If the prices goes up anymore i suggested that we do some haunting. Yes, haunting.

I think it’s a great idea, to spread rumors that the houses in the neighboring housing projects are haunted then dress as ghouls at night and prowl the area to make it more real. Then the price would go down and we would grab the house immediately.

Note that i said neighboring projects, not the one in Desa Park City because in case our plans backfires or something happens, the ones in Desa Park is still available when we retire.

Nah, i’m just kidding. I’m not going as a ghoul, the boyfriend is.

Miserly Miser

Miserly Miser

It’s really amusing how miserly we have become.

Today was like the final awakening as to how our lifestyle have been turned completely around just because we want to get a place of our own.

You have no idea how amazed and fleetingly happy we were today when we saw the new vending machine at Ikea. I’ve never noticed the machine sitting there before this so i’m assuming it’s new? If it’s not, then how come i never perasan it’s there geh…

However, the point is we were like a 7 year old tasting ice cream for the first time, super happy, utterly in bliss. We would have jumped up and down in joy if not for all the passersby.

The reason?

Ok lar, this is not the actual vending machine. It’s a random pic i found.

The vending machine dispense drinks for a minimum… RM1.00! I mean, where the hell can you find bottled or can drinks in the country that cost you just RM1.00??!! Even mineral water cost more than that.

And here we were in the middle of town, in a mall, and we find that bottled mineral water can be bought with RM1.00, diet pepsi also for the price of RM1.00, 7-up for the price of… you guessed it, RM1.00.

Ok, i realize after blogging about that, i’m being really pathetic but damn it’s just nice to buy something for a less price when the price of everything else is going up.

By the way, i remember someone wrote something in my facebook about the increase of petrol price yet again… i quote “Rakyat make bee-lines 4 petrol kiosks b4 midnite. Next time they make bee-lines in the polls 2 vote they better know how 2 vote … Hopefully …“.

Totally agree. Have you register yourself? Go register ok.
