Oratane Session

My dermatologist prescribed Oratane to treat my acne prone face.

I’m just 3 weeks into the pills (btw i’m taking 10mg per day) and i’m already seeing improvement. I cannot describe how relieve and happy i am with the result. I guess only those suffering from acne problem will understand what i’m feeling right now.

I’ve been battling acne for almost 3 years now. You know, i used to have really great glowing skin but at one time my face started to have whiteheads all over and pimples started coming out. I think it was because of the facials i have been having.

Taught me to appreciate my skin more than ever; i didn’t need facial in the first place!

Here’s from year 2008.

acne-before

Here’s 2009 after using Dermalite and taking antibiotics from the clinic. Eventually my skin started to get immune with Dermalite products so i stopped using it.

2010 after stop taking antibiotics – whiteheads started popping up again. My skin was so oily i could scrap it off and cook with it! You could probable see the large pores in the pic too.

2010 after 3 weeks of Oratane. Pores became smaller, skin less oily, i can wear makeup without it becoming flaky, less whiteheads, no pimples at all.

Doc wants me to take Oratane for 20 weeks, that’s about 5 months which i’m determined to continue till the end. I’m not risking of a relapse episode this time.

I can’t describe the terrible feeling of having ugly skin. It’s like having your confidence level stomped on and thrown into the sea. It’s depressing and it affects your life the way you cannot imagine it will. It’s just really sad.

And having my skin improved like this makes the side effects like dry skin, lips and nostrils, hair and hunger pangs somewhat bearable.

I’m looking forward to share my success story in months to come. Fingers cross people!

Nico, i’m on my 6th week. So far, so good. Although pimples do occasionally pops out but it’s under control. The white heads are gone though and my skin feels smoother. My lips are super dry and chapped though… i’ll take a pic and post it up in the blog next time.

I think the results varies from person to person because i have less serious acne. Some people needs to take the med longer to see result. Some people’s skin gets worse before they improve. So hang in there and don’t give up!

And remember to drink lots of water and put on the suitable moisturizer. Good luck yeah… to both of us :)

mine is moderate i think, that’s why my dermatologist subscribes me only 10mg..btw im not having any serious dryness or chapped lips..just a little bit dry..maybe because my skin is oily so the medicine is suitable for my skin..i guess..
yeah good luck for both of us..

Erica, i did not suffer from menstrual irregularity. But i am told that the side effects are different for some people. I read from some forum that it will cause late periods for some people too. But just to be on the safe side why don’t you consult your doctor?

Hi, i’m on my 21st week of oratane. I’m very happy with the results as my skin is now acne free and very smooth. I did not suffer from any side effects other than dry lips during the entire course of medication. This is my last week taking the pills. That being said i think the effectiveness and side effects of the medication varies from patients to patients. I’ve read articles that saus for some cases the acne worsen before it gets better. Also if you suffer from depression do not take the pills. I suggest you consult a dermotologist about your condition and discuss your options.

i was really really concerned about taking oratane. i had a prescription sitting in my wallet for 4 months before i finally decided to take it. i am in my 4th week and taking 40mg a day (apparently this is a high dose but i am 6ft tall and weigh about 66kg). my acne has never been terrible, at any one time i might have between 4 and 8 whiteheads… it’s enough to affect my confidence though, i’m 25 and sick of having pimples. anyway despite my fear of side effects i just wanted to share with everyone that i have had none (so far) aside from dry lips and hands. i don’t want to jinx myself but just don’t let all the scary stories on the internet put you off as i initially did… you might not get any side effects, and if you do it will probably be worth the clear skin!

This is my 4th week of using Oratane and Iam one person who has terrible blemishes, but after 4 weeks there is a very slight change but I have noticed it and so has my husband, I’m getting my second pck to tablets this week and I’m seeing my doctor on the 20th of October. I do have terrible dry lips and I hope it will not damage them permanently. Any way will keep all you guys posted with the process…

Oratane really does work, I’ve used it for 6 months and it’s been really hard with the side effects that I’ve had to go off it but you’d think after 6 months acne wouldn’t appear for a while, I’ve been off it for 4 days and I’ve already got pimples.
I don’t know weather to continue taking it and having awful side effects eg: chest pains, or risk getting acne again and stop taking the medication.

Hi.. I’m taking oratane and i’m on my 8th week. My face got worst on the 6th week:( Anyways, it’s staring to clear out. I feel the smoothness on some parts of my face but the scars are still there. I’m excited to see the results. I beleive this is the solution of my long time pimple problem since college. Just hang on!!! we’ll be pimple free very soon…

Hi umm I had to get blood tests done before I started taking oratane did anyone else? Uh ive had lots of trouble with my skin for 4 years now, and have no confidence and feel down all the time do you think this will help me oh and I’m starting on the 10mg and my skin is also very oily and yuck

  17. Jess says:

Hey just thought I would write this out again more clearer right so my dematolgst looked at my skin as I have tried so much cleansers and things for supermarket and doctors and nothing seems to work. I have had a lot of trouble with my skin for over four years and it’s just got more on forehead an chin also back, I have no confidence at all i just feel like that’s all people look at my skin. Anyway he told me to try oratane and put me on 10mg. But before I could take them I had to go get blood tests done to check my liver and blood cholesterol to make sure that was alright.. So tmorrow would be the start of taking them… The would last me 3months then I have to go back in march to see him.. So does anyone know of a non oil free newzealand sunblock I could use or lip stuff?? What sort of food should I eat or drink? Could anyone help me thanks also I’ll try get a photo up now of my skin.
And with my progress on oratane though out. The months

And I’ve noticed from everybodys side effects that we all have dry lips but in my case i also have dark blemishes on my cheek bones and it seems as if its spreading (worried face) so is the anybody that’s going through the same problem as me!?
