Favoritism

Favoritism

I was thinking a lot lately about a lot of stuff. Well, actually i am constantly thinking about a lot of things that puzzles me in life no matter about past events or about future happenings, often obsessively. That’s what i do, i am extremely obsess with things that i couldn’t or can’t control.

And this is just one of the things that i often found myself thinking about.

About parents and their kids and about parents favoring a particular child more than the others.

It happens all the time. In fact, i am almost certain that it happens in almost all of the family in the world. Parents are known to prefer one child above others and if the family is a big one where there are like 1/2 a dozen kids or so, sometimes a few lucky siblings gets more praises than the other few siblings in the family. They might not notice it but they are indeed doing it.

I mean, i am living proof and being the middle child adds to the misery. But hey let’s not get into that or this will be end endless anguish rants.

Let it be sufficient that i vow never to follow my parents’ footstep. I vow to treat all my kids (really i am not having more than 2 kids of my own or i’ll kill myself) on the same level of fairness and love them equally. Yes, i am going to be this really spectacular parent that my kids will love me with all their hearts and be the person they look up to, the person they go to in times of happiness and trouble. Above all, i will be the virtue of fairness and equality.

Then the boyfriend and i went and have this conversation in the car that made me do a second take.

Me: Hey do you prefer to have a baby boy or girl in the future?
The boyfriend: It doesn’t matter.
Me: Really? I prefer boys.
The boyfriend: What if you have a girl?

Me: I hope the first is a baby boy then the second child i won’t mind if it’s a girl. Coz i really can’t stand girly girls that loves everything pink and lacy and Hello Kitty stuffs. It’ll be my greatest nightmare if my daughter turns out a bimbo or overly vain or both. Oh god, i can’t imagine how i’ll manage the tantrums she’ll throw! I’m hoping that if my eldest is a boy then maybe my daughter would be more balanced.

So much for fairness and equality…

Ok, what i said might above might what i’m feeling right now but might not be true in the future. It’s just a phase that i’m sure every woman goes through. I’m pretty sure too i’m going to be a kick-ass mother no matter what gender my child is going to be. I mean, i have to go through 9 months of hell for the baby so i’m like hell going to love the baby, be it boy or girl right.

Pray that my baby girl won’t one day see this post and hate me :S

K-Palette Lasting Eyeliner

So far i’ve been looking for a good eyeliner but i find most of those available over the counter doesn’t apply well. Sometimes the brush will be too small or the liquid will be too runny and worst the eyeliner tends to run and smear after just a little while.

I’ve asked my sis to get me a good eyeliner from her trip to Japan and she brought back K-Palette Lasting Eyeliner.

It cost around 1, 260 yen (RM46.45). Pretty expensive for a liquid eyeliner but it’s really good.

I heard it’s available at Watson pharmacy but i’m not sure. It should be rather costly here i think.

The brush is just the right length, pointy and firm. The liquid not runny at all, it glides easily when applied. I love that’s it’s easy to control so the perfect line could be drawn.

It says “1 day tattoo” on the label – it’s supposed to last up to 24hours and lots of people had written review to testify it’s effectiveness. For me, it didn’t last very long. At the end of the day, the tattoo was a little smeared and the line almost disappeared. Maybe i have oily eyelids.

It dries really fast but it’s not waterproof.

Here’s a pic of me after using the eyeliner (without make-up and mascara).

The good thing is that it doesn’t smudge the lower lid making you look like a panda by the end of the day. Also it’s easy to remove – can be removed with warm water or what i did was just a gentle swipe using cotton and a little eye make-up remover and you’re done.

Carnation Corn Caps

I hope you are not reading this right before lunch coz i think this will totally gross you out.

Finish your lunch and let it digest before you continue :P.

Why? Today i am going to write about corn, that’s why.

Have you noticed that sometimes you get this really hard skin protruding from the skin surface of your toes, your fingers (especially the middle finger of your writing hand) or your palm? If your answer is “no” then you are one of those lucky people that i’m envious of because you either have really good skin or you hardly need to do any housework.

For people women who does a lot of housework or wear shoes too tight you are bound to get calluses or sometimes corn. Figurative speaking though i think men are more susceptible.

A corn is a specially-shaped callus of dead skin that usually occurs
on thin or smooth) skin surfaces, especially on the dorsal surface of toes or fingers. They can sometimes occur on the thicker palmar or plantar skin surfaces. Corns form when the pressure point against the skin traces an elliptical or semi-elliptical path during the rubbing motion, the center of which is at the point of pressure, gradually widening.

Corn is not necessarily painful (although sometimes if it’s constantly rubbed or if it becomes infected) but mostly corn is just a nuisance.

I have this one corn on my right hand thumb since i was young. Don’t ask me how it got there because i have no idea.

I tried cutting it off with a nail clipper but it just grew back because i didn’t reach the corn head. In order to remove the corn i needed to remove the head which is rather deep within the skin. Even by doing so there is no guarantee that it will go away permanently.

I have also tried liquid medication that contains a slight percentage of acid. I put a drop on the corn everyday and it was supposed to slowly peel off the skin layer by layer until it reaches the corn head. It was too painful so i stopped using it before i finding out if it works.

Recently,  i noticed 2 more corns on my hand (one of my left and 2 on my right). Off to the pharmacy i ran.

I came back with a pack of medicated plasters. Carnation brand corn caps.

The pack contain 6 corn caps that is supposed to help remove corns. Each corn cap is to be applied on the corn for two days at a time until the corn is removed. The medicated cap contains Salicylic Acid among other ingredients that will peel the hard skin away and a red color ring around the medication to relief pressure and to contain the medication from spilling out.

Day 1:  There was no pain but the area around the corn was stained red by the medicine from the corn cap. The corn itself was more protruding and hard.

Day 4:  Still there was no pain involved. The skin around the corn became very soft as the skin was dissolving but the corn was harder than ever. It became very obvious too. Look at the pic below where the corn is jutting out more and more by the day.

Day 6: I felt a slight pain whenever i use my hand and the area is accidentally brushed upon (even with the corn cap paltered on). It’s not too painful but bearable… kind of like rubbing alcohol on a small wound kind of pain. The whole area around the corn started to peel.

Day 8: The corn actually came off after i gently scrapped it away! Of course i felt a little bit of pain but really it’s nothing serious. It’s not as painful as it looks.

Day 12: The affected area is now healed.

I am right now in the process of curing my other hand from corn. The corn cap have proven to work but i think the number of days it takes to remove the corn depends on how big and deep the corn is. Most probably it would just take less than a week to work.

One negative thing about this corn cap is that the ring is too big so the surface that is exposed to the Salicylic Acid is rather a lot. The area within the red ring soften and peels really fast so it’ll hurt a bit. Otherwise it’s quite useful.

Note: Pls read the instruction carefully. There are directions to follow and it might cause adverse effect if you have certain health constraint like diabetes.

Miserly Miser

Miserly Miser

It’s really amusing how miserly we have become.

Today was like the final awakening as to how our lifestyle have been turned completely around just because we want to get a place of our own.

You have no idea how amazed and fleetingly happy we were today when we saw the new vending machine at Ikea. I’ve never noticed the machine sitting there before this so i’m assuming it’s new? If it’s not, then how come i never perasan it’s there geh…

However, the point is we were like a 7 year old tasting ice cream for the first time, super happy, utterly in bliss. We would have jumped up and down in joy if not for all the passersby.

The reason?

Ok lar, this is not the actual vending machine. It’s a random pic i found.

The vending machine dispense drinks for a minimum… RM1.00! I mean, where the hell can you find bottled or can drinks in the country that cost you just RM1.00??!! Even mineral water cost more than that.

And here we were in the middle of town, in a mall, and we find that bottled mineral water can be bought with RM1.00, diet pepsi also for the price of RM1.00, 7-up for the price of… you guessed it, RM1.00.

Ok, i realize after blogging about that, i’m being really pathetic but damn it’s just nice to buy something for a less price when the price of everything else is going up.

By the way, i remember someone wrote something in my facebook about the increase of petrol price yet again… i quote “Rakyat make bee-lines 4 petrol kiosks b4 midnite. Next time they make bee-lines in the polls 2 vote they better know how 2 vote … Hopefully …“.

Totally agree. Have you register yourself? Go register ok.

Viva Spain, Too Bad Netherlands and a Happy Anniversary to us

Viva Spain, Too Bad Netherlands and a Happy Anniversary to us

That’s a real long title LOL.

I can’t believe that World Cup is over. Just when i was getting started to enjoy the whole celebration.

I have to admit it’s more then 11 people chasing after a ball, World Cup is about victory, defeat and the whole world coming together to celebrate the spirit of sportsmanship, the cultural difference and the unity behind the game itself.

Wow, now i can’t believe i said that! But well, that’s how i come to understand the World Cup anyways.

I surprised even myself by staying up and watching the last few matches and learned a few stuff about football after all these years. I spotted offsides all by myself too. Impressive given my standard of footie knowledge before this is next to a big zero.

I’m happy that Spain won eventhough i supported Netherlands. I have a thing for underdogs and a thing for orange clogs :P. But Spain clearly played with more grace and skills (and clearly less rough judging from the amount of yellow card the orange team collected) so i guess everyone is happy except for the Dutch. Better luck next time in Brazil.

As for Paul the octopus cum oracle, i’m giving him a chance. Heck, i’m even giving his entire family tree a chance just for a while – i’m not having fried squid anytime soon i think). I heard Paul is 2 years old which is supposed to be quite old for a octopus. Don’t think we’ll see his tentacles in the next World Cup, thank god.

I digress for just a little.

The World Cup finals was on the same day as our 4th anniversary.

You know what, we don’t go all out for anniversaries or birthdays or any other occasions anymore. I think age and comfort had gotten in the way. I remember a time when we used to get gifts, plan where to dine and i would have a long blog post declaring my undying love or something in that essence. Haha.

Plain laziness. Haha.

This year we agreed to have a quiet dinner at Jarrod & Rawlins at Ampwalk.

The atmosphere was great. We had our privacy and the food? Fantastic.

“Happy Anniversary b!”

You know what? I’m even planning to get married on 11th July because that means we’ll have less dates to remember. But mostly it means in the future he’ll have one date less to remember and i’ll have one less excuse to burn him *slaps forehead*

Origins Clear Improvement Mask

I bought Origins Clear Improvement Mask (100ml) almost a year ago for RM95.00 and i’m still using the same tube.

Not that it’s not a good mask. On the contrary, it’s a great mask for deep cleansing and clearing the pores from impurities. It only takes a little to cover the face so since i’ve been using maybe once a week or once every 2 weeks when i’m in the mood or when i’m lazy maybe 3 weeks once, my first tube is still intact for at least a few more applications.

Excuse the not so clean cover. I’ve used this tube for almost a year :S

The mask contains charcoal properties which draw out pore-cloggers from… well the pores (haha), the White China Clay absorbs environmental toxins while lecithin dissolves impurities.

It’s really a must-have kind of mask because the environment around us is getting worst. Just look at the air pollution and haze! For people who uses make-up all the time this is great.

It’s especially a necessity for acne skin. I’ve seen an huge improvement to my skin after i start using this mask. My skin feels smoother with less white heads and it helps to lessen acne too.

Do be careful not to over use it though to avoid drying up the skin. Recommended use is once a week. I use it in the weekends because that’s when i uses make-up the most.

The texture of the mask is not too thick like most of the charcoal mask in the market. It’s more runny and watery compared to charcoal mask from brands like Kose or Shiseido and unlike those 2 brand of masks which are peel-off masks, Origins Clear Improvement Mask is a wash-off mask.

All you need to do is open pores with warm, moist towel and layer mask on. A thin layer is sufficient hence there’s no need to slap on too much – just as long as it covers the whole face (avoid eye and mouth area please). Allow it to dry (around 10 to 15 minutes) then rinse well and you’re well to go.
