Read a blog entry by minishorts. It’s about the age old question, ‘What is the root of all evil?’.
“What do you think the root of all evil is?”
“Morality.”
“Why?”
“Because from morality, stems the concept and essence of evil. From there, came the rules of what should be good and bad according the people who made them. Rules that otherwise force people to judge, to be prejudiced and ultimately, to do the very things that are evil for the sake of removing what they think is evil.”
“Then why not fault that to religion where morality stems from in the first place?”
“Probably because religion was a good idea. The rules that came with it however was a very bad one.”

I pondered about it for quite sometime. Is there actually an answer to this question? I would god damn like to know coz i sure don’t have it.
Over the time there are many who tried to come up with the answer. I heard (or read) quite a handful myself. Among the many conclusions, some say the root of all evil is greed, many says it’s religion, most says it’s money. But i sure don’t think morality is the answer. How could morality be the root of all evil when morality is just a notion created by men?
So i would assume that ‘The Root Of All Evil’ has similar meaning as ‘The Source Of All Evil’. If the source of all evil is morality (or to be more precise, the existence of morality), then it only means men are to blame. Who came up with the notion of morality? Non other than men.
Hence, the question is why. Why did morality exist? Some would say it’s religion. Religion let us to believe what is good and what is bad, what is acceptable in the society and what is not, what will bring us to heaven and what would let us to hell. Hence with religion comes morality.
Then this brings us to conclude that the root of evil is religion and not morality.
But who created religion? Non other than men.
So is root of all things evil, men? If you believe in the existence of god then it would trace back to god as the source of evil, since god created men. Else you might as well blame it on the Big Bang.
But let’s take god or the Big Bang Theory out of the equation. I don’t think god created men and sprinkle good or evil dust on them just for fun. I think god created all men without any preference for good or evil. I don’t think the Big Bang have anything to do with men being evil either.
Reverse back to religion. That must be the answer.
But aha! Not everyone believes in religion. But everyone has a certain level of morality. And crime (evil) are not necessarily committed by someone with a religion. Which kinda defunct the last few conclusions. The root is neither morality nor religion. It’s neither god nor the Big Bang.
So what is the root? How about desire?
The root of all evil is desire.
This is the closest i could come up with. It kinda make other (most anyways) theory go kaput. If you say the root of evil is money, it can’t be right coz greed makes you wants money. And desire for a better and luxurious life makes you greedy. It boils down to desire.
If you say morality is the source, it’s not right either. Coz what makes you breach morality? Desire. And what about religion? Religion is created by men for their conveniences. What result in something being acceptable in a religion and what’s not? It’s all rules set by men. And influenced men when they set the rules. Desire. Desire to create a near perfect community.
Now ponder upon this.
Ps:// It’s just my thoughts. Thou shalt not be offended.
