Bangkok to Chiang Mai in 15 Hours

6 months plus more to go for my Bangkok > Chiang Mai trip and i’m already getting all hyped about it. Mr. Bf suggested we take the train from Bangkok up to Chiang Mai and i agreed. So, i only bought the flight ticket to Bangkok and return ticket from Chiang Mai. I’m so ignorant to have thought that the journey would the most take a few hours give and take.

railway from bangkok to chiang mai
My puppy paw on the globe

Actually it’s gonna take about 13 to 15 hours depending on the coach class. That’s a friggin’ long journey stuffed up in a train. I have no idea why he loves taking trains. All i see is trees, trees and more trees.

But to see this?

It might be worth it.

Dear Nuffnang, Why not Have an Environment Related Event?

There’ll be a Green Every Day celebration on 8th June 2008 at Taman Lembah Kiara in Taman Tun Dr Ismail. That’s this coming Sunday to be exact. Admission is free and the event is from 9am to 4pm. There’s no specification on what events will be held there but i think there’s no harm dropping by if i could make it. Afterall, i’m all for the environment. Are you going to check it out?

Speaking of environment, i think more and more people are aware of environmental issues such as climate change and environmental conservation. I know i am. Just today, there is news on China taking a curb on plastic usage in the country. I had no idea that China alone is consuming 1 trillion of plastic per year. Imagine the total of plastic waste, all countries combined. No wonder Mother Earth is wrecking havoc like crazy.

Personally i think China’s move by charging the public for plastic bags and banning unnecessary use of plastics is the way to go. Malaysia too may benefit from similar acts. Well, maybe not a complete ban in plastic bags. *mom will kill me coz she’s using those for sealing food in the refrigerator. Maybe just a ban in shopping malls. This might push the people to opt for alternatives like using a green bag which will help in the ecology department for long term.

My pledges for a greener world made ahead is:

“I will decline plastic bags at shopping malls or stores but use a green bag instead”

Ps: If you didn’t know, Justlife was selling a really cute shopping bag the last time i went for a visit. It’s priced at RM25 and it’s meant as a green bag. Have no idea if they’re still selling it. I’ll check it out if i’m there.

Dear Nuffnang, why not have an environment related event? Then old bags like me could join in the fun. Old ladies cannot be seen partying in wild animal costumes :P *i’m kidding. I’m not old, i’m just wrinkly… same goes to i’m not fat, i’m just big bone.

Small Orange Hosting

Actually, for these past few weeks i’ve been checking out some website hosting plans available on the net. The price varies depending on the package that they are offering. Many offers promotional price that is dirt cheap but comes with not so spectacular hosting features.

It’s essential to get a good hosting plan especially those that come with excellent 24 hours support because maintaining a website calls for around the clock tuning. What i need is a website host that’ll support my site template and all the plugins. As simple as that. But i found out that finding one that is really suitable is a tough task.

There are many website hosts on the net. One of them is Small Orange. Cute name huh? A Small Orange Web Hosting offers hosting from simple to advanced websites. So even if you’re a beginner you could get it done here. The price is starting as low as $2.50 and non-oversold bandwidth up to 500GB. All i can say is its pretty affordable compared to other host out there. They have 5 plans (Tiny, Small, Medium, Big and Super) to select from. It all depends on your personal requirements.

Right now Small Orange is having a promotion whereby if you subscribe for a year, you get 2 months of free services.

Parents Behaving Badly

Do you know what i really hate? I hate parents that let their kids run around public places with no supervision. I hate parents that knows that their kids are annoying the hell out of everyone in public but choose to ignore it. The kid annoys me but the parents annoys me more.

You know what i’m talking about right? I’m talking bout the couple who munch blissfully on their drumstick while their kids goes running around KFC, bumping into people at the queue and stepping on their shoes; shrieking happily about god knows what. Those naughty kids that’s running in circles in the women’s department while the parent is enjoying their shopping spree.

There were once when i was at the Immigration Department where i had to endure kids screaming their lungs out for nearly 4 miserable hours. That’s 240 minutes of torture! One boy was on the floor crawling and another was wiggling on the floor pretending he was a worm. *I think the janitor would have loved him to bits. Guess what was the parents doing? They just stared in boredom at their boys. There were a time when if i did this (slither in public), it would warrant a slap from dad and mom would have told me off for being “kurang ajar” (no manners).

If you don’t intend to handle the children, don’t bring them out. Is the kids or the parent who’s behaving badly now?

Ps: It’s nice to know that i’m not turning into a mean aunty. The baby on the next table at Rakuzen seemed to find me amusing. Ahh, i haven’t lost my charm.

Reading Empowers: 2008 Malaysian Book Fest

Went to the Malaysian 2008 Book Fest at KLCC Convention Centre (The Biggest Book Fest in South East Asia) yesterday. It’s organized by Popular Bookstore which by the way is the 3rd Book Fest held annually since 2006, bringing in a total of 509 booths by publisher from all across the continent (Taiwan, Hongkong, United Kingdom, China, Singapore and more). It turned out to be a great affair.

Actually it’s my first time being at a book fest so big. It covered 5 halls in total. If i’m not mistaken, 2 halls are dedicated for English and Malay books and an impressive 3 halls for Chinese books alone. Too bad i can’t read Chinese. Mr. Bf had a blast though *geek!

Although it was a great deal and discounts going on, i was pretty disappointed coz there weren’t much English books that i found interesting enough to purchase. Most of the English books are on self improvements stuffs. Oh, well. Mr. Bf got me this instead coz he was guilty that i had to stand there waiting for him indulging and purchasing Chinese books i don’t blardy understand while i end up empty handed!

Around RM45.00 for this “501 Must-Visit Cities”, 544 pages, 2008 issue! Now that’s what i call a great deal.

must visit
Woo Hoo!

By the way, he subscribed to National Geographic mag coz there was a “subscribe 1 year free 1 year” deal at the fest. Ok, i’m also a geek. Bet you didn’t know what i wrote under the “ambition” column during school days?

“Ambition: NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC PHOTOGRAPHER”

Want me to take your photo?

Note to self: Definitely going for next year’s fest but MUST wear iron shoes to avoid nosy kids running around berserk trampling on foot. Ouch! Ignorant parents should be prosecuted.

Have You Ever Pee in The Pool?

This is what i’ve been up to.

I’m stressed up. I can’t swim well but swimming is relaxing. I wish those blardy kids could just go away and stop splashing water or play life guard in the pool. Kids in the swimming pool gets on my nerves. *sorry i’m just being cranky. I hope they don’t pee in the pool or else.

Have you ever pee in the pool or on the beach? I know guys sometimes do that when they can’t get to the toilet on time. Do girls do that?
