Today is Mother’s Day. I hope you (Yeah you who’s reading this now) didn’t forget what today is. I bought a Philips multi-purpose blender for my mom. (What did you get for yours?). Yeah, i know it’s not the most creative or the most expensive gift. One thing mom thought me is to be practical. Mom always says “Money doesn’t grow on trees you know” even when i’m buying her a gift… plus mom’s trusty blender broke the other day.

I really hope i didn’t get the wrong thing for her coz i very much wants mom to feel happy on Mother’s Day. For all the impulsive and wrong thing i’ve done in my life she had always stood by my side (Even though she does it in a wrong way). I just hope that i could make her happy for maybe just a day.

I could never comprehend why mom had worked so hard and sacrifice so much for us. I remember during the economy crisis back in the 90′s, mom had to collect papers and junks for recycling. I was just a kid but i could see how difficult a time mom was having. I remember mom learning to drive when she’s in her late 30′s just so all of us wouldn’t have to take the mini bus. I remember mom almost broke her hand when the concrete fell on her arm (when she was collecting junks near a construction site) pinning her down. I remember having paper cuts on all my fingers helping her sort out papers for recycling. How she managed to have the strength (emotionally and physically) to do all these while everyone was looking down on her and with no family support i couldn’t start to understand. She put us through school. She gave us what we wanted. I guess i would know when i have a kid on my own.

I will never understand but i will always remember.

To me, mom is the ultimate SURVIVOR.
