Unhelpful Malaysians?

Facebook Twitter Email Linkedin Digg Delicious Stumbleupon Reddit Tumblr

Following my previous post, on What Happened at KLCC–> KL Sentral LRT Transit…

I realized that i am naive and kick-ass-easy-to-con. I can’t be 100% sure that he was a con man… uhm… maybe about 80% sure.

Only on the way back did we begin to analyze what happened.

1) He claimed he is from Singapore but he doesn’t speak too much English. Yes, he understand few English words but he keeps conversing in Mandarin with us even though he knows our Mandarin sux and we speak English well. There were no hint of Sigaporean Mandarin accent when he spoke…

2) He complained on how unhelpful Malaysians were, especially the police officers even though he god damn knows i am a Malaysian myself. If you are in a foreign country would you dare to complaint about the country’s inefficiency to the locals? My conclusion is he purposely said it so we would go all out to prove he is wrong… like giving him money and helping him out? Plus he god damn knows that i could identify with his complaints about the unhelpful ‘officers’ so i would pity him.

3) If he was asking for directions and help from so many people i can’t believe that he could have end up walking the whole 3 hours with no help whatsoever… unless no one understands Mandarin in Malaysia! I don’t believe that majority Malaysians could be so heartless!

4) He wanted to go to Singaporean embassy… ok i didn’t know where it was. I only found out that it is in Jalan Tun Razak. I can’t believe that he was directed to KLCC instead. It’s so damn nearby but he walked to KLCC instead… unless all Malaysians are so ignorant like me to not know where the embassy is.

5) His brother told him to wait at KL Sentral’s KFC. I can’t believe that he can’t remember it’s Pasar Seni or KL Sentral… It sounds too different right?

6) When we went up to look for him, he left his backpack on the corner floor outside KFC while he walked around. If a person lost his wallet and passport before this would he be so careless again?

All these thoughts were on our minds the whole time we were heading home. Trust me, if you were in the same situation, i think most of you wouldn’t have thought so much about all these points on the spot. Not everyone is so observant and logical all the time. It’s not like you can ask him to sit down 10 minutes while you analyze the situation.

I don’t mind the RM10 since we gave it out of sincerity. However, i admit that i am far more reluctant to help anyone that’ll approach me in the near future. I am wondering what would happen if he was genuine. We would have just ignored and turn our backs on him. Judging by the response and comments i got from the previous post, i guess most Malaysians are really cautious nowadays.

So, we’re unhelpful but who’s to blame?

*i think i’m gonna find out where every embassy and police stations in Malaysia is located…paranoia paranoia…

Normally, people would only analyse the chain of events after it happened. It’s not easy to do it while it’s happening.
So, if I’m in your shoes, I think I would’ve done the same thing if not worse (I’m also ignorant). To sum it up, you’ve done well in handling it. Main objective is to be cautious and keep away from harm.

Hmm… I’m not a blogger but I enjoy reading your blogs. However, I do hope to catch you here

Malaysia is unhelpful in some ways..

  5. annna says:

i’ll just direct him to helpdesk/info counter. U’d never noe wad a person is like, con or not.

  6. HK says:

in a way, what you did wasn’t wrong at all, it’s just that our very nature is being skeptical because of all the crime and con-jobs around.

Well, in a way it means Malaysians are bloody well cautious and careful hahaha. To me, it’s not that they are unhelpful, they don’t want to risk being helpful just to end up getting conned out of their sincerity.

I’m even more paranoid (safety conscious) i guess, I bring something which I can use as a weapon around be it a toothpick from dinner or an umbrella. Hehehe =P

  7. lovie says:

You were just being nice, it’s ok.
Be more cautious next time, if there’s a next time. And I don’t hope you see him again the next time. =)

  8. WoMbOk™♂ says:

Hmm.. a battle of the conscience.

Reading and hearing about all these con men make it terribly difficult to be a good samaritan. It’s a shame really. I suppose the best thing to do in future is to direct these people to the nearest police kiosk / station.

  9. lankapo says:

i have similair experience hen i was astudent in pudu bas station. the man claime he is a tourist and want to go somewhere, i dont remember where.
He said that he need some money.

At that time,Student, got no money, only enuff to get home heheh
so I just showed my empty wallet to him, then he left frustrated.

After that , I see him approaching other people.

so moral of the story, just be extra careful. Ignorant is better, coz u never know what he will do to you..

neway, i hope this post will at least warn people out there about con mans. no matter it’s genuine or not i think we should always be alert. i learnt my lesson :)

keeyit>> but he looked really anxious and all. i couldn’t think straight. that’s how a con man catch our sprain leg right hahaha

next time i will just direct him to the officers.

aron wong>> yalor. i read about those news also. cannot even stare at his eyes. will kena jampi or something. terrible…

    anna>>you’re so right

hk>>dude, toothpicks??!!! LOL. that’s something new.

Con Man: Give me your money
    HK: I won’t.
COn Man: You wan to die?!
HK: No…. (takes out toothpick) I will poke you to death!! Take that!

Muahahaha… no offence ya but i can’t help imagining wakaka

lovie>>yeah. i hope the next victim will be more cautious and don’t fall for the trap.

wombok>> it really is. it was like “hmmm… should i help him? no i shouldn’t coz maybe he’s a fraud…but what if he isn’t…poor thing”. in the end i gave in LOL

lankapo>> ignorance is good. but would i be able to leave with the conscience that maybe he’s for real? i think we should help just in case he’s real but not with money though :P
