Me: Ceh, blow cow lar! Blow how many times people out there also won’t notice. They don’t even know the meaning. Only know you blow whistle lor.
MommyTeddy: Listen to me first lar! Then hor… Blow 2 times then stop then… means you’re in danger…
KidCheng: Mou liu! So after you blow the whistle… MCA come rescue you is it?
Me: Hahahahahahaha
MommyTeddy: -_-”

As i was telling EatAllYouCanShung about this silly conversation we had with mom, it hit us that those MCA people were teaching the public Morse Codes.

I find Morse Codes fantastically intriguing. The fact that this language standard was and still is used internationally via various mediums says a whole lot. Remember Titanic? Well, the RMS Titanic operator was signaling SOS using Morse Codes before it sank. Lighthouse’s guard switches the light from the tower on and off base on Morse to caution air flights. People with severe motion disabilities in addition to sensory disabilities (e.g. people who are also deaf or blind) can receive Morse through a skin buzzer! War prisoners even used Morse to communicate with each other by tapping on the wall coz talking aloud would warrant suspicion and severe punishment.

We use to have this at home..not old..vintage lar

That aside, it reminded me of how i used to tap on the switch hook of our house’s old telephone back when i was a kid. I found it quite wonderful that by tapping the hook (some kind of Morse Code), i could dial a number and even connect to another household. *how cool is that! I guess i was overdosed with Nancy Drew and Sherlock Holmes. Forgive me, but that was the time when roaming around my tiny house were somewhat of an adventure.

Be my hero and master this!

Or maybe MCA really have a guide book on Morse. So if they happen to stumble across some whistle blowing damsel in distress, they would stop and take out the handy mini morse (no pun intended) and check whether she need resuscitation or just a tow truck?

Better still, this one even has an option for sound play so you could listen to your sentence in basic Morse. CLICK HERE. It gets really tricky to follow. The key is speed!

Woo hoo! Another discovery worth a Champaign or two *wakaka

Try to figure out what i’m saying here:
